dd/mm/yyyy, a film diary.

Currently, I think editing on a micro-level has never been better, and editing on a macro-level has never been worse. I leave it to you to decide why this is.

FANTASTIC MR. FOX • D. Wes Anderson • 2009

Fantastic indeed!

I admit I resisted this film.  But then we said to ourselves, “it’s the new Wes Anderson: as if we won’t see it in the cinema.”  And I am so glad we did.  This film has renewed my faith in American cinema (which took some severe blows in 2009; read. TRANSFORMERS 2, TERMINATOR 4 etc etc).

Clooney leads an excellent cast.  The script is simple and tight.  And most importantly, unlike contemporary WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, this film has a sweetness to it that should deflect those dissenting reviews who charge it with being “too adult.”  I would suggest WTWTA is a much more fucked-up, dark, adult film.  Even the colour palette between the two films suggests Wes Anderson’s adaptation of a childrens classic will be brighter, sweeter, more enjoyable.
