dd/mm/yyyy, a film diary.

Currently, I think editing on a micro-level has never been better, and editing on a macro-level has never been worse. I leave it to you to decide why this is.

THE THIRD MAN - D: Carol Reed - 1949

Yes, with this watching, THIRD MAN has entered my top 10 of all time.  This film is so damn good, it’s hard to know where to begin.  Critics like to say CITIZEN KANE is the best film of all time, but I would place this one slightly ahead because it is compelling beyond just the cinematography and film-making trickery.  The narrative here is beautifully crafted, the script is tight and the performances are stellar.  Look for Orson Welles’ micro-nod near the end —- a firm statement that films can do things other art forms cannot.
