MARY & MAX - Adam Elliot - 2009 - Film Fest #11
Animated film from Australia about an unlikely pen-pal friendship between a young Aussie girl and a recluse New Yorker. Great animation and pretty decent story still wasn’t quite enough for me to engage fully. Perhaps I was in the mood for something lighter. Perhaps I didn’t quite engage with either of the lead characters. Perhaps the narrative was just too sad (it is really a sad, sad story indeed). Or perhaps watching BLIND LOVES immediately before set the bar too high and I was left wishing MARY & MAX was better.
