dd/mm/yyyy, a film diary.

Currently, I think editing on a micro-level has never been better, and editing on a macro-level has never been worse. I leave it to you to decide why this is.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN - Tomas Alfredson - 2008 - Another film fest era DVD rental

Yes I rented a DVD the night after watching the four-hour CHE in the cinema during the afternoon.  Aieee Aiee!!!  I couldn’t not watch a film!  Please!

Anyway:  yes LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is probably the best vampire film ever made after NOSFERATU in the 1920s.  This is probably the closest I’ll ever come to liking a vampire film.  For some reason, vampire narratives always leave me feeling underwhelmed.  I just don’t connect.

Having said that, this film is excellent.  The script is a taut adaptation by the author of the novel.  It must be fascinating to shift a narrative that one has created in novel form into the relatively limiting form of a screenplay.  Mr Lindqvist did a fine job in creating this story of a young boy and the vampire he befriends.

I loved the cinematography as well.  I love snow on screen — all that white is always so beautiful and it reminds me of home.

A good film, but still, about vampires.  If you’re into vampire narratives, you’ll probably flip out over this film!  And the trailer is pretty damn awesome.
